The Fender Blues DeVille Amp -Elektrik Dave My next restoration project
My next restoration project: The
Fender blues DeVille.
Needs some help, but works as is. Tweed, grill, reverb needs to be done ...and a modification or two.
Yes it was a local add. I picked it up about an hour ago, the seller let me try it out first. Definitely going to run a hot plate on it.
New addition to the fender tube amp family I have going. Fender Blues Deville with 4 10' alnico speakers. Ordering a new grill cloth and a couple things...but it works well.
I am so stoked...I had a hot rod deluxe several years ago, and I had my 3 kids at home. 2 weeks from Christmas I was broke, bills paid, but no money left over. I sold it to a pawn shop, and my kids had a nice Christmas. This one costed the very same amount the pawn shop gave me...300$. only this one is a blues DeVille first year they came out, which I think I like better.
There is a Santa Claus. I believe!
Love being able to order amp parts online; grill cloth oxblood gold stripe 59 wide.
Happiness is a yard of exact matching grill cloth to replace the torn and faded one.
Click on the grill cloth to the right if you'd like to order it at Amazon (we may get a commision on it.)
Amazing craftsmanship on this fender amp.
Not only is the grill cloth stapled about every 1/2 inch, it's also glued down. I actually counted the staples...an even 100. Not a quick job at all.
I am seriously wondering if they actually quoted 100 staples per these units in the plans or if they had the happy stapler person just go bananas. I'm going to put 100 staples back into it.
I'm only replacing the grill cloth because it was falling apart.
Think I'll leave the tweed. Then installing a new reverb tank, matching tube set, check bias, and power light and socket. I watch the buy n sell sights and internet every day...once every 6 months to a year I get lucky. Those fender tube amps just keep going up and up, it's getting crazy.
This chassis stamp (similar to one in the photo of a twin reverb chassis) is what I like to see in a fender twin reverb...pre 68. Research shows some of the silver face 1968's were blackface Amps they just switched the faceplate to silver, and released some of them late 67. They have vertical black lines, and drip edges. I'm lucky to have one, same circuit as the highly sought after 65 twin reverb, ab763.
New grill cloth done. It was wasted and had to be replaced.Thought about recovering the tweed, but I'd rather have it looking used. Now on to waiting for the new reverb tank, and more parts to arrive.
