Use the Select notes checkboxes (below the staff) to turn scale tones on or off.
Watch the notes appear on the treble and bass staves, and on the fretboard.
Fretboard (left side)
Select 4, 5, 6, or 7 strings to switch between common bass and guitar layouts.
Use the small ▲ / ▼ tuning arrows above each string number to raise or lower that string's tuning
(up to +/- 11 semitones from its default). Each string-count setting remembers its own tuning.
Click a fret position (normal mode) to place or remove a green marker and add/remove that pitch class
from the scale.
Click a string letter (open string) to toggle the open note in or out of the scale.
The open-letter turns green when active.
Display modes
Normal input mode (default): Markers appear only where you click. Each marker updates the scale pattern,
hex code, and staff display.
Display all notes (global):
Shows every occurrence of each selected pitch class on the fretboard.
Colors change by octave in repeating families, allowing you to see the chromatic pattern climbing the neck.
The current root note is shown with a lighter marker and black text for easy visibility.
In this mode, clicking any marker toggles that pitch class everywhere.
Staves and Hex Code (right side)
The Hex scale name displays the three-digit hex code representing your 12-tone pattern.
When the hex code matches a known pattern, its scale name appears under the staves.
The treble and bass staves show the selected notes in ascending order, with proper sharps/flats and ledger lines.
Use the small ▲ / ▼ arrows to the right of each staff to shift that staff up or down by whole octaves (up to +/- 2).
Scale selection tools
Select notes: Choose notes manually to create any 12-tone pattern.
Optional scale name selection: Choose a known scale to auto-load its pattern and name.
Hex input: Enter a 3-digit hex code and click Apply to jump directly to that pattern.
Reset options
Reset/Clear All: Returns the key to C, clears all selected notes, resets octave shifts,
turns off Display-all mode, and restores default tuning for the current string-count layout.
Reset tunings to default: Restores all string tunings for every string-count layout and clears
fretboard markers, while leaving the current key, scale pattern, and staff notes unchanged.
